Wax Cube Shortcut

If you’re using wax cubes to scent your home, you can use the leftover wax – as well as excess candle wax – to create your own wax cubes. Just warm the excess wax in the microwave and pour into an old (or dollar store) ice cube tray. Add an essential oil of your choosing and set in the fridge to cool; then use them in your favorite warmer.

Slow Cooker Scents

You don’t need a scent warmer or a candle to fill your home with fragrance – you just need a slow cooker. Fill it 2/3 of the way with water and drop in sliced lemons and limes, essential oils, cinnamon sticks – whatever you’d like. Let it simmer on low all day (or for just a few hours) and then throw out the leftovers and wash the interior of the pot to prepare it for your next batch of famous homemade soup.

Easy Garden

No fresh flowers blooming outside? Head to the grocery store – not an expensive flower shop – for an inexpensive bouquet you can take home and pretty up. Trim the bottoms of the flowers and leaves by about a half an inch, and if the flowers aren’t blooming yet, put them in warm water to make the blooms open and the scents pour out.

Fabric Scent

Love fabric sprays? Make your own by filling a 32 oz. spray bottle with 1/8 cup of your favorite fabric softener and 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and then adding hot water to top off the bottle. Give it a good shake and use just like you would any home fabric spray.

Stovetop Scent

Make your own fancy home-and-kitchen store scent by simmering a pot of water on the stove. Fill it about 2/3 of the way, and add thinly sliced lemons, a few sprigs of rosemary and a splash or two of vanilla. Let simmer until the water cooks down and your home will smell extra special all day.
